Life expectancy and causes of death of people with Down syndrome

 

We wanted to find out how long people with Down syndrome live on average compared to other people.

What we did

We looked at what age people with Down syndrome die.

We looked a the causes of death for people with Down syndrome.

What we found

We found that people with Down syndrome die younger than other people.

We found that deaths were much higher among infants with Down syndrome compared to infants without Down syndrome.

What we will do next

We have written a report about this.

We will share this information across Scotland to make improvements to the health care of people with Down syndrome.
