Life expectancy and causes of death of people with learning disabilities

 

We want to find out about how long people with learning disabilities live on average compared to other people.

What we did

We looked at what age people with learning disabilities die.

We looked at the causes of death for people with learning disabilities.

What we found

We found that people with learning disabilities die younger than other people.

We found that people with more severe learning disabilities die a lot younger than people with mild learning disabilities.

What we will do next

We have written a report about the first part of this project.

We will look at the information about age and causes of death for people with learning disabilities in Scotland.

We will find what needs to happen to improve the life expectancy of people with learning disabilities of all ages.

We will share these findings with health and care staff.
